VNovels is a free browser studio for making and playing visual novels — branching interactive stories in the spirit of Ren'Py, with no install and no code required. You write scenes and choices, generate the art, and play the result right in the editor.

No. Scenes and choices are written in a playable editor or arranged visually in a node graph, and all artwork — backgrounds, character sprites, items, and dialogue-box designs — is generated from text prompts.

Each story is a project in My VNovels. The browse pages — Home, Category, and Rankings — are where you discover stories to play.

Open a project in the Engine and edit the story directly inside the playable view — what you type is what players see. Choices create branches, and you can step back and forward through the story while editing.

The graph editor shows every scene as a node and every choice as a connection. Use it to navigate large stories, rewire branches, and spot dead ends at a glance. Changes in the graph and the playable editor stay in sync.

The text assistant can add, remove, or rewrite scenes for you. Describe what you want — a new branch, a different ending, a tone change — and it edits the story structure directly.

Describe a background, character, item, or dialogue-box design and VNovels generates four variants from your prompt — you pick the one you like. You can attach reference images to steer the style.

Characters and items are automatically background-removed when they are generated, so they composite cleanly on top of any scene background.

Yes. Existing images can be edited with two models: Fast for quick touch-ups and Smart for larger changes that preserve the original composition.
